IT'S ALL ABOUT THE FUTURE
::
The people I
work with by and large love
working with kids. It’s hard
to beat the thrill and joy
of working with truly gifted
youth. The photos at right
are some examples.
In 2000, I
got to meet and play with
Holden Truelove (his real
name!) on a Mohegan Sun
AllStars show. He was 11
then. A top notch blues
guitarist and stunning
performer, you can see for
yourself what fun it was to
be around him!
Of course, I
love to support my own twin
girls’ music activities all
the time; they’ve got the
gift and love to sing, dance
and even write songs
already. At 9, they are very
active in the choirs at
school and church.
When Orleans
was recording at Charlie
Morgan’s mid-2004 we were
able to feature Josh
Pinkham, a Florida boy
(center) on one of the
tracks. His mandolin playing
has caught the attention of
the entire bluegrass
community and he’s rippin’
it up! Blazing technique
and inventive, fresh
musicality. His folks are
also musicians who joined me
on the Looking For The Light
project. One talented
family!
Most recently, I heard
Antonio Herbert Rowland
playing flute accompaniment
at a choir festival which my
girls
were singing at. I’m hoping
to be able to feature him on
a recording soon. He’s only
been playing flute for a
couple of years
but his sound
is gorgeous, he’s obviously
got the gift of talent.
I’ve also had the pleasure
of meeting all of these
kids’ parents. They are
supportive and carefully
watching out for their
precious children, hoping
that they will stay on the
right track and doing all
they can to ensure that. |
